Having recently visited Mr. Hat in Brooklyn (hi, Mr. Hat!), it got me musing about favorite spots in the city (new fave Brooklyn breakfast restaurant: Egg) and how our own daily landscapes consist, really, of just those spots: where we meet for a coffee, see a friend, pick up a book, walk the dog . . . We assemble and construct our own cities, don’t we?

The people behind Next American City understand that. In a recent issue of Paper, Diana Lind notes that “at their best, cities exist as eras of ideas … rather than actually mapable places.” (FYI, I buy my copies of Paper at Five15 – one of the cool spots on my own city map.)

Of what is your city constructed?  What ideas? What sweet spots? What beliefs?
